Ceramic Washers

Ceramic Washers Last

Washers which are used as scratch plates beneath screws and in other places need to be able to resist abrasion, so that they do not crack or wear away too easily. Ceramic washers offer the strength required of machining in most applications. Technical ceramics are substances which are extremely hard, and make good abrasives as well as being resistant to abrasion due to their hardness. These and other common machining components can be purchased via specialist manufacturers.

Technical Ceramics used in making Ceramic Washers

The technical ceramics used in making ceramic washers are different to the clay-based ceramics which can be found in various items of crockery. Technical ceramics are formed by the action of heat, and often are formed under high temperatures, which give these substances their exceptional heat resistance. Ceramics such as Alumina are oxides, and carbides such as Silicon Carbide and composite materials are also used. Ceramics can be cast in a finished product which does not require the hard tooling required for finishing machining made from many other materials.
