Alumina, or aluminum oxide (the scientific name for the material) is one of the most popular technical ceramics, and is itself subdivided into different Alumina percentage types. Other materials which ceramic machining manufacturers use include silicon carbide, steatite and fused silica. The virtue of ceramic machining is that it is hard and able to handle high temperatures, thus making it truly versatile.
