What are Alumina Ceramics?

Alumina ceramics are the industrial ceramic oxides of Aluminum which are used in many different industries for their hardness and resistance to abrasion, as well as their superior heat resistance. Alumina ceramics are used in a number of applications as an alternative to industrial diamond, as they are far more affordable to produce. Machining of various kinds is made from Alumina, including insulators used in electrical systems and spacers used to reduce the deteriorative effect of friction between movable parts.

Machining and Alumina Ceramics

Alumina ceramics are often used to make grinding plates, as these materials’ superior hardness makes them excellent abrasives (the oxide in powder form is used in some whitening toothpastes, for the same effect). Alumina is used to create guides and other machining which must withstand high levels of abrasion caused by friction, and is also used to make rods and tubes and a number of other commonly used machining components, in various standardized dimensions.
